In our unending efforts to introduce you to new and upcoming acts on the ~scene~ this week we’re bringing you posts featuring Coasta, our latest Band-Of-The-Week! Recommended by our very own photographer, Audrey, not only is this band fun to shoot— they’re also quite enjoyable to listen to. Formed in Long Island within just the past year, their music is unique and they’ve performed with The Dangerous Summer, NGHBRS, and From Indian Lakes! At the rate they are going, you can expect to see their name in lights pretty soon. But enough trivia; get to know them yourselves through the interview below!
The Serious Half:
- How did the band form?
The three of us met at Rogue Studios on Long Island, New York. At the time, Chris and Steve were recording a prior project, and Jamey was recording a few acoustic songs. We started jamming together and formed Coasta a few weeks later.
- What are the coolest instruments/techniques you’ve discovered that you like to include in songs?
We used a lot of pedals and natural room ambience on the Sunzal EP. One piece of gear that’s all over the record is the analog Space Echo. We got some crazy sounds with it, and it helped add another dimension to the songs. - As a whole, how do you feel you’ve grown internally by being in a band?
We feel that anytime you’re working creatively with other people, it helps you grow as an individual songwriter. The momentum of the song is moving much quicker because everyone is coming up with ideas, which pushes you individually to make the song that much better. We feel our best songs are the ones we write together as a band, cause we challenge each other and ourselves to come up with something better than what we did on the last song.
- Do you have any questions you would like to ask your fans?
Yea, “Mom, what’s for dinner?”
The Less-Than-Serious-Half:
- If you were all superheroes, what would your powers be and why?
“Speed Read”
- If you were the opposite sex, what would your name be?
Chris: Stephanie, Steve: Jamey, Jamey: Gary
- Any guilty pleasures?
Bugsy Malone
